Privacy Policy
SpeedFerret is designed to be as privacy-friendly as possible. We collect the minimum data needed to run the game and leaderboards. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how you can control it.
1. Who We Are
SpeedFerret (speedferret.com) is an online casual gaming platform. References to "we", "us", or "SpeedFerret" in this policy refer to the operators of speedferret.com. For privacy enquiries, contact us at hello@speedferret.com.
2. What We Collect
2a. Data you generate by playing
When you play a SpeedFerret game, we store the following in a file on our server identified only by your randomly generated username:
- Username — a randomly generated 9-character string (e.g.
AspPaaepY). Not linked to your real identity in any way. - Nickname — an optional display name you choose. We recommend not using your real name.
- High score per game — your best score, the level you reached, and the date it was set.
- Account creation date — the date your username was first generated.
We do not collect: your name, email address, phone number, IP address, location, device identifiers, or any other personally identifiable information.
2b. Server logs
Like all web servers, ours automatically records standard access logs including IP addresses, pages visited, and timestamps. These logs are used solely for security monitoring and debugging, are not linked to your SpeedFerret username, and are retained for a maximum of 30 days.
2c. Advertising data
If third-party advertising is enabled on the site, those ad providers may collect data independently under their own privacy policies. See Section 6.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect solely to:
- Display your scores and profile at
speedferret.com/{username} - Populate game leaderboards with your nickname and best score
- Allow you to return to your profile from any device using your username
- Maintain site security and diagnose technical issues
We do not sell, rent, or share your gameplay data with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Public Leaderboards
Your nickname and best scores are displayed publicly on SpeedFerret leaderboards
and on your profile page at speedferret.com/{username}. Anyone who
visits that URL can see your scores and nickname.
If you want your profile to be less discoverable, simply do not share your username URL.
Your 9-character username is randomly generated and not indexed by search engines by default
(we set noindex on individual profile pages).
6. Advertising & Third Parties
SpeedFerret may display advertisements. These may be served by third-party providers such as Google AdSense. When ads are active, those providers may:
- Set their own cookies on your device
- Collect data about your browsing behaviour to serve targeted ads
- Be subject to their own privacy policies (e.g. Google's Privacy Policy)
You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ad Settings or by using the NAI opt-out tool.
If ads are not currently active on the site, no third-party ad cookies are set.
7. Children's Privacy
SpeedFerret does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our games are designed not to require any personal information — we generate a random username rather than asking for a name or email.
If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information (for example, via a nickname), please contact us at hello@speedferret.com and we will delete it promptly.
8. Data Retention
Your username file (containing your scores and nickname) is retained for as long as your account is active. During the current development phase, leaderboards and user data may be reset periodically without notice.
To request deletion of your data, contact us with your username at hello@speedferret.com and we will delete your file within 7 days.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about your username
- Correction — update your nickname at any time via your profile page
- Deletion — request complete removal of your username and scores
- Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format (JSON)
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@speedferret.com with your 9-character username. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Security
We take reasonable precautions to protect user data, including:
- HTTPS encryption on all connections
- User data files stored outside the web-accessible directory
- Direct access to JSON data files blocked via server configuration
- No passwords or sensitive personal data stored
However, no system is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted over the internet.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of SpeedFerret after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
